Update: New Floating Man-Made Island About to be Open to the Public » ecoble - ecological design, green innovation and environmental sustainability
The original Spiral Island was the talk of the world: a man-made floating island constructed from 250,000 plastic bottles that could drift and relocate as needed until it was destroyed by disaster. Now the new Spiral Island is slated to open to the public within the next few months in Laguna Makax near Isla Mujeres. The new island has drawn in donations, volunteers and visitors from all parts of the world and walks of life - people inspired by what may be one of the most impressive do-it-yourself projects of modern times.

Let’s make one. I’d prefer to use recycled beer bottles as that is all i plan on drinking to make this island.

Wii homebrew channel video released - Engadget
We’ve already seen some rudimentary Wii homebrew channel support, but this latest video released by homebrew developer Bushing steps things up considerably, with it turning what was once a curiosity into something that quite a few non-homebrew dabbling folks will likely be eager to get their hands on. As you can see after the break, the channel looks to be about as straightforward as can be, and it apparently includes built-in support for loading ELF and DOL homebrew executables via USBGecko and TCP/IP, in addition to support for loading ‘em off SD cards. Sadly, there’s no word on a release just yet, but we can’t imagine it being kept under wraps for too much longer.

Ill stick with my non modded wii thank you very much. I dont want the big N to release an update and force me to have a $250 brick lying under my television.

At concerts these days you have to brace yourself for an experience easily ruined by the fans themselves, who have become a rude and unruly lot entirely unaware of everyone else’s personal space. Here are the ten rules of concerts that people blatantly disobey.

Virtual Console: ESRB Rates EarthBound For Wii VC
Here’s one future Wii Virtual Console update I cannot wait to write up. The ESRB has recently posted a rating for the classic Super Nintendo RPG EarthBound for the Nintendo Wii. The sequel to the Japanese-only game Mother, the game tells the story of Ness and company as they fight to gather the powers of the Earth to defeat the evil alien Giygas. With a compelling humor, an original setting, and some damn fine graphics for a Super Nintendo game, EarthBound is widely considered to be one of the greatest role-playing games of all time…and now it is rated E for Everyone. There really is only one reason an older game gets a Wii rating via the ESRB, so expect EarthBound to arrive on the Wii Virtual Console sometime in the near future.

Jesus Christ man. I tried to update to the new Hardy Heron linux distro and all hell broke loose on my hard drive after i was told to restart. Somehow i finally managed to reinstall 7.10 on this goddamned thing. I am back to square one with all my data and shit, but it wasnt that bad really. I managed to backup my music a month or so ago so i didnt lose that much really. All i really lost were some movies i downloaded, which i needed to delete anyways.

The only other thing that pisses me off is that i have to reinstall WoW.

charles manson“Thanks in part to an abundance of spare time, Manson has managed to record another record, this time out bearing the typically ominous title, One Mind. The album is licensed under Creative Commons, meaning that anyone can share and remix the thing for non-commercial purposes.”

So i downloaded the album and just as i thought, good ole Charlie Mason is fucking nuts. The album is horrible. It’s all acoustic crazy folk music with a Manson twist.

Cheap Geek: 99-Cent Bluetooth Headset - Gearlog
Cheapsters looking for a handsfree solution need look no further than the Soyo FreeStyler 500 Bluetooth Headset, available for $10.99 from Buy.com. But, if you check out using Google Checkout first time users only, you get $10 off. Hows that for a deal?

Now, we havent reviewed this particular headset, so we cant vouch for its quality. But its 99 cents, right? Still, its lightweight with a removable and adjustable earclip and has a claimed 4-6 hours of talk time.
-
I ordered one of these pieces of shits. Hey, you cant go wrong with a buck right? Ill let you know how it turns out in about 10 days or so. Hopefully my ear wont fall off from bluetooth cancer.
-
Update: So I got the headset in the mail today [4-5-08] and it’s not bad so far. The range isn’t what you would call “acceptable”. I get those “going out of range” clicks when the goddamn thing is in my pocket. That could be from a poor first charge but who knows. For a buck you can’t go wrong really.
-
Go get one if you feel compelled to have a bluetooth headset but don’t want to pay $50+ for one. It does the job.
